Other Animal Sera

From mice to horses - at Bio&SELL, you'll find the right animal serum for your cells! We offer a wide range of serums to meet all your needs:

High-quality animal sera that meet all cell culture needs

At Bio&SELL, you’ll find a wide selection of animal sera from various species - tailored to your cells, cell lines, and experimental requirements. Our product range includes:

Animal sera contain a variety of natural proteins, growth factors, nutrients, and other components and are therefore used in various areas of cell culture and research. Depending on the serum and application, they can be used as a supplement for cell culture media, for autologous or species-specific cell systems, or as a blocking reagent (blocking serum) in immunological detection methods.

Which animal serum is right for your experiment?

The appropriate animal serum depends on the cell line used, the species, the experimental setup, and the specific method. We therefore offer serums from various animal species so that you can use the right serum for your experiment.

Typical applications for our animal serums include:

  • Cell culture and autologous cell culture systems
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
  • Immunofluorescence (IF)
  • Immunoblotting or Western blot
  • Immunoprecipitation
  • Immunoassays
  • Indirect immunocytochemistry
  • Blocking of nonspecific binding (blocking serum)
  • Parasitological studies

The specific suitability and recommended use depend on the individual serum. The individual product pages therefore contain detailed information on the source species, properties, and possible applications.

FAQs

What are animal serums?

Animal serums are serums derived from the blood of various animal species. They contain natural proteins, growth factors, and other components and are used in cell culture, immunology, and biomedical research.

What are animal sera used for?

Animal sera are used as additives in cell culture media, in autologous cell culture systems, and as blocking serum in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, immunoblotting, and other immunological methods.

Can animal sera be used as blocking serum?

Animal sera, such as goat, donkey, or rabbit serum, are used as blocking serum in immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence-based procedures. They serve to block nonspecific binding sites in the tissue and thereby reduce background signals. The serum proteins they contain occupy potential nonspecific binding sites, thereby preventing unwanted interactions with the antibodies used. Typically, serum from the same animal species used to produce the secondary antibody is employed. This improves the signal-to-noise ratio and allows for a more specific visualization of the target structures. However, the choice of serum must be tailored to the specific antibody system.

What types of animal sera are available?

Bio&SELL offers, among others, calf, bovine, horse, rabbit, mouse, rat, hamster, sheep, lamb, pig, chicken, goat, and donkey sera.

Can animal sera be used as an alternative to FBS?

Depending on the application, newborn calf serum (NBCS), adult bovine serum, or horse serum, for example, can serve as alternatives to fetal bovine serum (FBS). Suitability depends on the specific experiment.

What are the advantages of species-specific sera?

Species-specific sera can improve compatibility with certain cell lines and reduce nonspecific reactions in immunological assays.
