Plant DNA Kit

Our Plant DNA Kit enables simple and reliable isolation of DNA from various plant materials (e.g. leaves, stems, seeds, roots). Thanks to column-based DNA purification and optimized buffers that are virtually harmless to health, our kit is extremely easy to use and very safe. The Plant DNA Kit contains various lysis buffers and protocols for efficient digestion of different plant starting materials (fresh, frozen or dried). After lysis, a pre-filtration step removes non-lysed plant components. Within 30-40 min (including lysis) you obtain high-quality isolated DNA (approx. 3 - 25 µg), which is ideal for subsequent downstream analyses and polymerase chain reactions (PCRs).

Properties

Fast isolation - In only 30-40 min (including lysis)
Easy handling - column-based DNA isolation
High throughput - up to 100 mg dry weight or 180 mg wet weight
High yield - yield approx. 3-25 µg DNA; binding capacity of the column > 50 µg DNA
High safety - without the use of toxic substances such as phenol, DTT, beta-mercaptoethanol

Good to know

As plants have both primary and secondary plant substances, the isolation of DNA from plant tissues is often very difficult. Primary plant substances (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) are the main components of the plant. Secondary plant substances (colorants, fragrances and flavorings) enable the plant to attract insects and ward off pests. Secondary plant substances are, for example, polyphenols (such as flavonoids and anthocyanins), carotenoids or alkaloids. During DNA isolation from plant tissues, DNA often interferes with polyphenols, polysaccharides and lipids. This reduces the DNA yield and lowers the quality of the extracted DNA.

Our Plant DNA Kit is optimized for DNA isolation from plant material. With two specially developed lysis buffers, our kit enables fast and efficient RNA isolation from the most challenging plant materials. Non-lyzed plant parts are removed using a pre-filtration step. After homogenization, your samples can be stored in the lysis buffer (at -20 °C) for a longer period of time without any concerns.
