Gel Stains
Our gel stains (GreenGel DNA/RNA Stain and RedGel DNA/RNA Stain) for staining nucleic acids (ssDNA, ds DNA, RNA) in agarose or polyacrylamide gels are a more convenient, sensitive, safe and environmentally friendly alternative to the carcinogenic ethidium bromide. The non-carcinogenicity of the dyes has been proven in the Ames test.
Properties
Extremely high sensitivity - small amounts from (0.1 ng DNA can be selected (GreenGel))
Very stable at room temperature - RedGel DNA/RNA Stain contains no dmso
Saves valuable time - no discoloration after the gel run
Neither toxic nor carcinogenic - higher safety, easier & cheaper disposal
Good to know
RedGel DNA/RNA Stain is 10,000x concentrated and dissolved in water. The DMSO-free dye allows a DNA detection level of > 0.1 ng DNA in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. It binds to ds-DNA, ssDNA as well as RNA and emits red fluorescence, which is detectable under LED or UV light and documented with the same filters as ethidium bromide (for cloning applications we recommend LED light). RedGel DNA/RNA Stain is easy to use, highly sensitive and very safe. Compared to ethidium bromide, the dye can be used and disposed of with fewer environmental and health concerns. The lower carcinogenicity of the dye has been proven by the Ames test.
GreenGel DNA/RNA Stain is also a much safer alternative to ethidium bromide and allows a DNA detection level of > 0.1 ng DNA in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. The dye binds both ds-DNA, ssDNA and RNA and emits green fluorescence after DNA binding and red fluorescence after RNA binding, which is detectable under UV light or blue LED with filters for green dyes. GreenGel DNA/RNA Stain is easy to use, 4x more sensitive than ethidium bromide and very safe. Compared to ethidium bromide, the dye can be used and disposed of with fewer environmental and health concerns. The lower carcinogenicity of the dye has been proven by the Ames test.
