Amphotericin B

Amphotericin B is a broadly effective polyene antifungal agent and is frequently used in cell culture to prevent unwanted contamination by yeasts and multicellular fungi. We offer Amphotericin B both as a solution and as a solid (water-soluble and water-insoluble form). Our Amphotericin B solution is ready-to-use and contains sodium deoxycholate as an emlugator (to maintain the suspension).

Amphotericin B acts as a pore-forming agent in the plasma membrane of fungi and yeasts. It is incorporated into the fungal cell membrane in combination with ergosterol, forming a pore that is permeable to ions. As a result, the fungus excretes important ions and eventually dies.
