Our CHO medium is a serum-free ready-to-use medium for optimized growth of Chinese Hamster Ovary(CHO) cells in suspension culture. The protein-free, chemically defined medium consists of a balanced mixture of salts, amino acids, vitamins and trace elements and has been enriched with stable L-glutamine, HEPES, iron citrate and Pluronic™. CHO cells are often used for the production of recombinant proteins for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.
Our CHO medium is suitable for small-scale in vitro cell culture of CHO cells and as a perfusion medium to increase production yield in bioproduction and ultimately for clinical-scale production. It accelerates the adaptation of your CHO cells during the transition from in vitro cell culture to production in perfusion bioreactors and offers a highly efficient and cost-saving solution for increased production yields in perfusion systems.

Good to know
In order to create in vivo conditions for cell growth in the cell culture, serum is always added to the medium. Serum serves the cells as a source of growth factors, lipids, hormones and minerals. High-quality sera are usually expensive and the composition is not precisely defined. For this reason, serum-free media are produced. These media contain additives that enable cell cultivation without the addition of serum.
Serum-free media are generally divided into
Non-defined serum-free media (can have undefined plant and animal components)
Chemically-defined serum-free media (only with components of known structure and weight)
Protein-free media (absolutely free of proteins; usually with hydrolysates)
Xeno-free media (free of proteins of non-human origin)
The use of serum-free media offers more consistency and reproducibility in cell culture. This makes cell cultivation more controllable and minimizes the risk of contamination. It also reduces costs by eliminating serum and simplifies downstream protein purification (protein yield is often higher).
Application
In vitro cell cultivation of CHO cells
Production of recombinant proteins
Bioreactor upscaling
CHO cells can usually be directly transferred from the serum containing adherent culture in a protein-free suspension culture. It takes about 2 weeks, until a stable suspension culture is developed.
Bio&SELL Protein-free "ready-to-use" CHO Medium:
Low contamination risk
Simple and inexpensive purification of the final products
High cell yield with excellent production rates of recombinant proteins
Due to the optimized composition of the medium, the cells hardly tend to aggregate and form a so called „single-cell suspension“
CHO cells are often used for the production of recombinant proteins for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.
Bio&SELL CHO Medium consists of a balanced mixture of salts, amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, hormones and is enriched with a low concentration of selected herbal hydrolysates for an optimized growth of CHO cells in suspension culture. The Bio&SELL CHO Medium is free of animal or human components and can therefore be used in sensitive production areas where safety and legal requirements must be complied (diagnostic or therapeutic use).
