Plasmid Mini Kit

The Plasmid Mini Kit is optimized for fast and reliable isolation of plasmid DNA (“high copy” plasmid DNA, “low copy” plasmid DNA, cosmid DNA) from 0.5 - 15 ml bacterial cells in only 15 min. For this purpose, cultured bacterial cells are alkaline digested and bacterial DNA is bound and purified with the aid of silica columns. The column-based DNA purification in combination with specially formulated buffers in our kit, which are virtually harmless to health, guarantee extremely easy handling and a high level of safety. With our Plasmid Mini Kit you are able to isolate high purity bacterial DNA (A₂₆₀ /A₂₈₀: 1.7 - 2.0), which is ideal for downstream applications such as sequencing, transfection, cloning, in vitro transcription or PCR.

Plasmid DNA consists of small, circular DNA molecules that exist within the cell independently of the bacterial chromosome and can replicate on their own. Many plasmids originate from pre-existing DNA that has broken off over time. Plasmids often contain genes responsible for specific traits, such as antibiotic resistance, and can replicate independently of the main genome. In addition, plasmids can be exchanged between bacteria (conjugation). This allows them to spread within populations and contribute to genetic diversity. In research, plasmids are often specifically isolated from bacteria and genetically modified to study specific genes or to introduce them into other organisms.

Isolating plasmid DNA is challenging because it is extracted together with larger chromosomal DNA and numerous cellular components. During isolation, the sensitive plasmid DNA can be damaged or contaminated with chromosomal DNA. With our optimized Plasmid Mini Kit, you can isolate pure plasmid DNA quickly and reliably.
