McCoy‘s 5A Medium

McCoy's 5A medium is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME) with modified amino acids and was originally developed for the proliferation of liver tumor cells. It is also suitable for the cultivation of primary cells, a wide range of established mammalian cell lines and for the production of viruses in primary cell cultures.

McCoy's 5A medium contains no proteins, growth factors or lipids and should be supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) for successful cell culture. The synthetic cell culture medium utilizes a sodium bicarbonate buffer system and requires a CO2 atmosphere of 5 to 10% to maintain physiological pH.
