Insectomed SF Express

Insectomed SF Express is a serum and protein free medium optimized for the cultivation of insect cells in suspension (e.g. Sf9 and Sf21). The nutrient rich, ready-to-use medium has been specially formulated for insect cells and contains optimal concentrations of amino acids, vitamins, trace elements, lipids, growth factors and salts. Insectomed SF Express is virtually free of animal or human components (< 0.2 % w/v) and hydrolysates (< 0.7 % w/v) and is also suitable for the production of recombinant proteins or viruses.

Insect cells such as Sf9 and Sf21 cells are frequently used in cell culture because they are particularly well-suited for recombinant protein expression. In combination with the baculovirus expression system, they enable the efficient production of complex proteins that exhibit many of the posttranslational modifications typical of eukaryotic cells. Sf cells are easy to culture, grow at moderate temperatures without CO₂ supplementation, and often reach high cell densities. Due to their robustness, good transfectability, and comparatively low cultivation costs, they represent an important alternative to mammalian cell lines.
