Neomycin

Neomycin (neomycin sulphate) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a broad toxic effect on gram-negative as well as gram-positive bacteria. The antibiotic binds the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thus inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing the death of the bacterium. Neomycin is particularly suitable for preventing bacterial contamination in cell cultures.
