Cytokines (human)

Cytokines are secreted peptides or small proteins that regulate the growth and differentiation of cells and coordinate the human immune system. Deregulated expression of cytokines has been associated with many human diseases, especially tumors. In cell culture, recombinant cytokines are used to modulate the activity of the immune system or to decipher the development of tumors.

We offer you a range of human, recombinantly expressed cytokines: GDNF, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, TGF-β1, TGF-β3, TNF-α.

Good to know

GDNF (glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor):
GDNF is secreted in the gastrointestinal tract by enteric glial cells and smooth muscle. The neurotrophic factor primarily promotes the survival of many types of neurons (= neuroprotection).

Interleukins
IL-1β (interleukin-1β), IL-2 (interleukin-2), IL-4 (interleukin-4) and IL-5 (interleukin-5) are cytokines of the interleukin family. Interleukins are secreted by the body's own defense cells and serve to regulate the immune system. IL-1β is mainly secreted by macrophages to initiate an acute inflammatory reaction. IL-2 is secreted by activated T helper cells and stimulates the growth of further T helper cells and cytotoxic T cells. IL-4 is secreted by TH2 helper cells to stimulate the growth of B cells. IL-4 also supports the synthesis of IgE and IgG. IL-5 is secreted by TH2 helper cells and promotes, among other things, the differentiation of B cells.

TGF-β (transforming growth factor β)
TGF-β 1-3 have a direct anti-inflammatory effect on TH1 cells. TGF-β 1-3 are local cytokines that have been associated with tissue healing and fibrosis, cardiac remodeling and heart failure after myocardial infarction.

TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor α)
TNF-α is a multifunctional signaling substance of the immune system. TNF-α is mainly secreted by macrophages and regulates the activity of various immune cells.
